Collaborative Disaster Management Training

In March 2024, representatives from AIG, in collaboration with RAF, Mitie Defence, Encompass, and Yang Enterprises, undertook a critical 3-week Oil Spill Response Training, following the arrival of essential equipment funded by the UK Government.  This program, crucial for our disaster management capabilities, was expertly delivered by Senior Trainer and Consultant, Harry Jolly and Marine Project Specialist, Arron McNicholas from Ambipar Response.

Training Overview

• Level 1: Practical training for frontline responders in port and shoreline cleanup.
• Level 2: Tactical training for incident command support roles.
• Level 3: Strategic management training for overseeing and managing incidents effectively.

An impressive 10% of our population is now equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to respond effectively to oil spills, minimising the impact to our marine environment.

This collaborative effort will continue as we work towards developing our Island’s Oil Spill Contingency Plan.

During our time on island, it was evident that AIG and associated stakeholders are taking proactive steps in line with industry best practice to develop their understanding of and skill sets relating to marine oil spill response, ensuring resilience is built amongst all agencies at an operational, tactical and strategic level.

Throughout all three levels of course the delegates were inquisitive, energetic, and polite, engaging with all theoretical and practical elements delivered. The delegates asked a variety of questions during delivery of the materials and outside of the formal classroom and field setting.

We would like to note our sincere thanks to AIG for their support in facilitating the course delivery during our stay on the island. In addition, our thanks also extend to the staff at Two Boats Club for their assistance and hospitality during the theoretical training days held at the venue.
