Ascension: One Island Vision Statement

The Ascension Island Government (AIG) is pleased to announce the UK Government’s Ministerial approval and the publication of the “Ascension: One Island Vision Statement”. The overarching aims of the Statement are to identify opportunities for collaboration on joint projects and to guide future UK Government investment on Ascension.
This statement is a strategic framework between the AIG, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Ministry of Defence (MOD), based around four main objectives.
- Defence operations and security
- Resilient infrastructure
- Sustainability and environment
- Community
The Statement is an important element of the UK Government’s Future of Ascension work and follows the joint FCDO/MOD senior officials visit to Ascension in November 2023 (see AIG Public Notice 339/2023 of 22 November 23). The publishing of the joint statement demonstrates the UK Government’s ongoing commitment to Ascension and acknowledges the importance of the community on Ascension’s strategic and operational roles. It is also a direct result of senior UK Government officials seeing first-hand the opportunities that exist for greater co-operation between organisations on Ascension.

Welcoming the Ministerial approval and publication Simon Minshull, The Administrator said “The vision sets a framework that will enable the AIG to work even closer with key partners. It also reaffirms that Ascension retains a vital role as a strategic asset for the UK’s defence and it provides commitments to advance work on sustainability and protect the Island’s natural environment.”
