Description
Large, terrestrial crustacean reaching a maximum carapace width of around 12 cm. Occurs in a wide range of colour morphs from pale yellow-orange to deep purple. Adult males often have elongated claws (chelae) and are larger than females on average. Generally nocturnal, preferring to shelter in burrows during the day. Mainly herbivorous, but is an opportunistic scavenger and will occasionally take live prey.
