On Tuesday, 12 November 2024, works on the Georgetown MUGA facility was completed, and is now open to the public for use.
In the 2023/24 budget process, with approval from the Governor on the recommendation of the Island Council, AIG allocated funding for a MUGA facility in Georgetown, to be sited on one of the existing derelict tennis courts.
Lightmain, who also built the MUGA in Two Boats, were contracted to provide the facility. With support from AIG staff, a team of three were on island at the end of June to install the framework and anticipated returning soon after to lay the carpet. However, there were a number of circumstances causing a delay and the team eventually returned last week.
The MUGA is much the same as the facility at Two Boats with markings for both football and tennis, basketball hoops are also installed. When bidding for this facility, the aim was to enhance sporting facilities in the Georgetown area for both youth and adults and it is hoped that everyone can appreciate and enjoy this resource.
Whilst on the island, the team also carried out repairs on the carpet at the Two Boats MUGA, leaving sufficient supplies for any future repairs that may be required.
