New Sea Rescue vessel arrives on island
9 April 2025
Government, Press Release
Saturday 29 March 2025 marked the arrival of the AIG Sea & Land Rescue service's new rescue vessel, "Ascension Guardian". This cutting-edge vessel replaces our current RHIB, "Ocean Sprinter", which has been in service since 2003.
Enhanced Capabilities and Safety
The "Ascension Guardian" boasts the latest advancements in vessel design, performance, and technology, and significantly enhances AIG Sea & Land Rescue services’ operational capabilities and crew safety. This upgrade was made possible by generous funding from the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office and the UK Maritime Coastguard Agency.
Sea Trials and Training
On Wednesday 02 April 2025 volunteers from the Sea & Land Rescue service launched the "Ascension Guardian" for its inaugural sea trials. Over the coming weeks, further trials will be conducted, and volunteers will undergo familiarisation training on the new vessel. Once complete, the "Ascension Guardian" will be fully operational and ready to serve the community of Ascension Island.
