Ascension Island is serviced by a cargo route from the UK as well as by a vessel operating the South Africa to St Helena cargo route. Both of these shipping routes accept civilian cargo. It is not possible to book any passenger berths on either route.
The Falkland Island Resupply Ship (FIRS) is operated by the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) and operates between the UK and the Falkland Islands, calling at Ascension. It travels approximately every eight weeks leaving from Marchwood Military Port, near to Southampton. It usually takes around 10 days to reach Ascension Island, after which it continues on to the Falkland Islands before returning to the UK.
Individuals employed on Ascension Island may expect their employer to handle shipment of personal belongings upon commencement and completion of employment and should contact their HR office for more information.
Private cargo and freight may be booked directly through the Travel and Shipping Office, however individuals will need to organise their own transport of goods to and from the port in Marchwood. Please contact the Shipping office for the current rates and appropriate forms.
AIG strongly recommends those wanting to transport cargo do so using an independent shipping agent such as Richard James International, who are able to organise delivery and transport to and from Marchwood. Their shipping depot is located in Avonmouth, Bristol.
For those living on Ascension it is possible to have an account with Richard James International. Goods, online purchases and even supermarket groceries may then be delivered directly to their shipping depot for packing and onward shipping.
It is possible to transport cargo between Ascension Island and either South Africa or St Helena. The AIG has agreed a charter contract with Maritime Carrier Shipping (MACS) to provide a cargo freight voyage.

Cargo bookings are handled by the St Helena Shipping office.
Freight can be sent to and from St Helena on the SA Airlink operated inter-island charter service. However this service is primarily for the transport of passengers and as such they take primacy ahead of freight.
Further information on freight costs and bookings may be obtained from the AIG Flight Bookings Team.
